Friday, May 15th...

Audio Recording on Friday afternoon by user2905875

Hi, my name is Michelle. I am a 14 year old girl and live in Kauai, Hawaii. Swimming is my life. Nothing will ever make me stop! Some people think basketball, football, or even soccer are the real sports. Though they always underestimate my true passion. Well now you know my background lets get started on what happen on Friday, May 15th the day after my swim meet. The day I will never forget.
Well to start off my goal was to beat Miranda. If your wondering who she is...she is my arch enemy.  She is always rubbing in my face the fact that I always get second. This time I am going to change that because she isn’t going to insult me anymore. Tic-toc tic-toc...is the only sound I  hear while I stare at the clock. As for now, I am just anxious to get the day over with. RING RING RING!!! The bell has rung as I darted down the hall and out the door I run into..... MIRANDA!!! I froze for a minute nothing came to my mind other than the swim meet jolted around with sudden confusion. As I came back to my senses I hear her say "Are you ready to lose again ... LOSER?" I reply saying " No your going down you fat VACA!! Though what she didn't know was that is cow in Spanish.. Ha Ha what now Miranda!!!
Man am I pumped to kick her butt! I know I am going to win this meet because I have practiced every chance that I was able to get. Okay so here it is...the day of the swim meet. As I walk towards the pool I feel sweat trickling down the back of  my neck. Now readying to start the race I hear the guy say "On your mark, get set, GO!!! And off we are racing towards the edge of the pool. We have 5 laps to go and seconds are passing by. Miranda is ahead of me I think to myself " Okay I have to step up my game or she will beat me again." Finally the last lap I push it my hardest then BOOM I hit the edge of the pool and the race is over.
Everyone starts cheering as they announce the winner. YES, I did it I finally beat Miranda Jones. Then as I look over I see Miranda glaring at me with those beady eyes staring into my soul. I was truly frightened but I will never admit that to her. Ring Ring my phone goes off and I'm out the door. As I am waiting on my mom to pick me up Miranda walks over. She says " Okay so you beat me in this race but I swim against the waves. I challenge you to a race Saturday morning at Tunnels Beach." I reply "BRING IT ON MIRANDA!!! This week is just flying by, Saturday is going to be here in no time. So I admit I am a little nervous but nothing is going to stop me from beating Miranda...again.
Sigh... Saturday is finally here and I"m just waiting for her to show up any time now. Wait..oh there she is, and race is now ready to begin. Now we are racing the hardest we have ever gone. Hey whats that!?!? said Miranda. As I pause to see what she is looking at I realize a great white shark is not even 10 feet away from our faces. We scream for our lives! HELP! HELP! HELP!

All I see is darkness but then I see light and a man wait a very large man. I hear sirens going off all around me and the constant cry of my name. My body is so numb I can't feel anything and everything is just spinning around in my head. I feel so confused because all I remember is racing against Miranda. WHOA.. wait what happened to Miranda I start to ask the strange man in front of me but I find it difficult to get any words out of my mouth. Look I know what you guys are thinking Miranda and I might not be the greatest friends but I still do care about her as a person. I mean wouldn't you?
About 30 minutes went by. I see my mother come over  with a face  full of sorrow. My tongue finally is processing the words that have been going on around my head for what seems like ages. My mom said “Honey I’m sorry but your friend Miranda has been put in ICU with major injuries from the shark. “Michelle”, the doctors don’t think she is going to make it. I burst out in tears. I didn’t think it was going to end like this! Oh no! Mommy! Why!?!?!?!?!? Is there anything we can do? My mom said no all we could do is wait. Now staring out my window I hear a cry from the hall. I jolt up and immediately ask my mom who it was. Just as I feared it was Miranda. My mother said that she didn’t make it through the surgery because the bite on her side was to deep and caused major blood loss. There was nothing more they could do. Ever since that day ...it’s changed me.

Comments for 11/10

It’s great that you were able to learn these different tactics to help you with this project, and now you can use them with future assignments. I never thought of procrastination as something positive before. I have always been told “don’t put it off or you will forget about it” ,or that you will never get done. Though what you said about keeping your procrastination under control, and setting a date for it to get done I agree that this is good with long term projects. This seems like it can help with organization on your assignments as well. I think I will give this some practice, and see how it works for me.

It’s wonderful that your able to take this class. I know how it feels to have all the teachers throwing work in your face, and having a hard time keeping up. I agree I like it a lot better when I don’t feel under pressure and can work at my own pace. Like the class I take in computers I feel like I don’t have to rush, and that i have the time to think and do my work correctly.

My Comments

I agree, the holocaust was awful! It wasn’t fair how these people were treated so badly. Though I wonder if Hitler had never existed, what would happen?

    Mood and Setting Story Telling

As I walk towards my grandparents cabin I feel relieved that the long-dreaded walk through woods is over. The wind was cold and felt as knives cutting against my skin. The snow was deep, daring me to fall within its boundaries. As I am walking through the front door I smell the sweet sensation of sugar cookies baking and, hear the ringing noise of one of my grandfathers records playing in the living room. I now feel at home.

    Bean Experiment

Problem-Which bean sprout will grow fastest? The bean watered with orange juice or water?

Back round knowledge- Plants grow well in water.

Hypothesis- I think the bean watered with water will grow the fastest. I think this because the orange juice is acidic and, the plant may not be able to handle that. There for the plant will probably die before it has the chance to grow very much.

Materials- paper, pencil, two paper cups, 25.1 grams of dirt, 10 mL of water and orange juice, graduated cylinder, scale, safety equipment, two smooth, white beans weighing 5 grams each, ruler

    Method-1. Get safety equipment
    2. Get two beans two white, smooth beans that weigh 5 grams each
    3. Get two cups of dirt that weigh 25.1 grams each
    4. Place one bean into each cup half an in. into the cup of dirt.
    5. Fill one cup with 10 mL of water and the other with 10 mL of orange juice every two days.
    6. Check once a day if any change has happened to your experiment, if so measure then record.
    7. Finally conclude your data.

    Experiment

Collect Data- Created a graph and, turned it in.

Conclusion- My hypothesis was correct because the plant watered with water grew 4.5 in. while the plant watered with orange juice never grew.

Extended Questions- 1.Would you have the same results if the temperature was 30 degrees hotter in the  room?
2.Would you have the same results if the temperature was 30 degrees cooler in the room?

    Revised and Original Methodology

      ~Original Methodology
Gather materials, once you have gathered materials place some dirt into each of the two cups, then put 1 bean in each cup about half way into the dirt, then pour 10 mL of water into one cup then ten mL of orange juice into the other cup every two days, once the bean sprouts start growing take your measurements, then conclude your data.

      ~Revised Methodology

      ~Reflection
I needed to re-write my methodology because I didn't number my steps and, wasn't very precise with my original.

    Internet Safety

My name is Peggy, and I'm a fourteen year old girl from Jackson, Mississippi. It all started Monday morning...the first day of school. Yea, that's right I was the new kid in town and, have tried to put off this day all summer. See my mom had been wanting to move for quite some time now since my grandmothers passing. She said she needed a change in scenery, but I didn't want to move, not away from all my  friends. Though I could see the hurt in her eyes and, how pain she was to be there in my small hometown. Well, since my dad got a great job offer in Jackson it was a win-win situation. For my parents anyways but, that's when things started to change.
Now here in Jackson my mom seemed to be a little happier since she wasn't reminded of all the memories. Then as for my dad well he's just an easy going person happy to be anywhere. I suppose I should've been happy to but how was I suppose to be happy when Monday morning was right in-front of me and, I could do nothing about it. It was awful walking through those two front doors when all eyes were just constantly staring me down. I felt so lonely. The only place I felt like I fit in was at my home but, even there my parents were off doing there own things.
It was like this for a while till Kristy came in. She was a great friend or so I thought. We started to share everything  together clothes, hair accessories and, oh yeah...our passwords. I thought I could trust I mean we were friends right? I just wanted to do everything to keep it that way but, I wasn't so lucky. One day Kristy got mad at  me and, wouldn't tell me why. I don't know why she was mad at me but, she just started ignoring me. So later I tried to message her from my account but, it wouldn't let me log in and, I knew I didn't change my password. Then I started getting random texts saying "how could you!?!" or, " are you crazy!". That's when I knew things had gone terribly wrong...Kristy!
How could she do this to me. Who knows the kind of stuff she could've been posting and, now everyone thinks it's me. It turns out Kristy wasn't even my friend from the start. A group of mean girls sent her over just to get as much information out of me as they could. I should've known. My old friends wont talk to me anymore and, I'm sure not having any luck making any new ones.
I've heard stories about things like this happening to other people but, I never thought it would happen to me.

Netsmartz inspired me to write this story.
